Born on November 1, 1973, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, possibly India's best known face, and certainly most glamorous, has turned 40 today. She forayed in glam world at the age 17 as a model and at the age of 21 she was crowned Miss World. She continued to model for the next three years and made her first film appearance in 1997's Iruvar, directed by Mani Ratnam.

Though this film did not do too well, her next film Jeans did quite well commercially. Aishwarya’s first Bollywood film was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in 1998. Throughout her filmi career, Ash did a number of Bollywood as well as Hollywood projects. The actor’s most remarkable films include Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal, Devdas, Chokher Bali, Josh, Khakee, Raincoat, Dhoom:2, Pink Panther, Guru, Mistress of Spices, Provoked, Sarkar Raj, Guzaarish among others.

Apart from films, the gorgeous actor has been at the top of the most-wanted list. Her most lucrative association has been with L'Oreal; she has represented the brand at the Cannes Film Festival for 12 years running now, something that has helped make her India's most famous face abroad. She's been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman, made Time Magazine's list of most influential people, been the subject of a 60 Minutes profile, and had a tulip in the Netherlands named after her.

Ash was also appointed as the new international Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS, the joint United Nations programme on AIDS and HIV.

At her personal front, Aishwarya is married to Abhishek Bachchan in a private ceremony in 2007 at the Bachchan residence- Prateeksha. She gave birth to Aaradhya in November 2011. Though Aishwarya ruled the Indian film industry with her astonishing beauty and her noteworthy performances, her fans are eagerly waiting for her comeback film post motherhood.
