Bollywood starlet Jiah Khan suicide at Mumbai home

(Reuters) - Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead at her home in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.
Khan, 25, was found hanged in her room on Monday night by her mother with a post mortem to be carried out to establish the cause of death, a Mumbai police official said.
But a police source said the death was not being treated as suspicious as it appeared to be suicide although no suicide note was found.
He said police had questioned Suraj Pancholi, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, to whom Khan had made her last phone call.
Khan, whose real name was Nafisa Khan, was born in New York and grew up in London. Her website said she went to New York to study acting at the Lee Strasberg's Institute.
Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Ram Gopal Varma's "Nishabd", playing the 18-year-old female lead opposite one of India's leading actors, Amitabh Bachchan, in a film loosely based on Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel "Lolita".
"Nishabd" received mixed reviews and did not do well at the Bollywood box office but Khan went on to play supporting roles in two blockbusters, the psychological thriller "Ghajini" in 2008 and the comedy "Housefull" in 2010.
Her death shocked the Indian film industry.
"Never ever seen a debutant actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when i was directing her in Nishabd," filmmaker Varma wrote on Twitter.
"I dont know the reason what led to this but jiah was very depressed about her career and scared for her future," he said in another tweet, adding that the actress had not worked for the past three years.
Fellow actress Dia Mirza tweeted: "RIP Nafisa (Jiah) Khan. You were too young and beautiful."

 Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who is busy shooting for two films at a time, Highway and 2 States, says she is too young to get married, and whenever she does, it might not be a big fat Indian wedding.

Asked whether she will go for the big fat Indian wedding, she said, “I have no idea! Don't you think I am too young for marriage? Still, if you insist... I'd say I'd keep it low-key and wouldn't go ballistic about it. As much as I enjoy the entire idea of the glamorous Indian wedding, I don't think I'd opt for one. I'd like a quiet celebration, preferably out of town.”

On whether she is the quintessential drama queen, she said, “I am a drama queen when I want to be. Otherwise I'm usually quiet. I internalize. If I have heartbreak, I will take a while to get over it, but I will never go all around the town howling. I think I am at a stage where I'm beyond those adolescent dramas.”

Meanwhile speaking on her favourite getaway in India, she said, “It would be Goa. When I am there, I am usually eating without bothering about the calories, lazily strolling around the beach, chilling by the pool and sleeping to my heart's content. I have a girl gang of four and I am planning a trip with them soon. We are friends since school days and we have determinedly stayed in touch.”

Australian model-actress Kristina Akheeva is debuting in Bollywood with the Deols’ home production Yamla Pagla Deewana 2. Needless to say, like many others in town who have got the privilege of working with Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby, she too is simply in awe of them.

In fact, while working on the film she got to spend time with Dharmendra and was highly moved by his life story. Calling the 77-year-old actor as the "kindest" and "most humble" person, she said that he made her feel "extremely welcome" and said she was a "part of the family".

Also, Dharmendra, a village boy who entered Hindi cinema winning a Filmfare new talent award and went on becoming a star with hits like Phool Aur Patthar, Satyakam and Sholay, reminded her of her professional responsibilities. Kristina said, "He constantly reminded me that I am here for a reason and that I was doing a good job. He told me a lot of stories from his past and how he got into the industry. It was inspiring to know his story".

Speaking of the film, she said, "I had a fantastic time. I learned a lot and got to work with such an iconic family. I have always been passionate about getting into films, so for me it was amazing to just be on sets everyday and do something which I love".
